Gas mains to be replaced in Whiston

National Grid will start work to replace two kilometres of pipes on East Bawtry Road on Monday (January 25).

The gas mains will be replaced between the entrance to Newman School and the junction with Grange Road, heading towards Wickersley.

Heading towards Whiston cross-roads, gas mains will be replaced between Flat Lane and Lease Gate Avenue.

National Grid said it does not expect to have put any roadworks in place but said motorists should expect disruption.

Paul Martin, National Grid authorising engineer, said: “This is essential work that will ensure that people continue to enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply for decades to come. 

“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused but we would urge people to bear with us while we complete this essential work. We will make every effort to minimise any disruption and complete the work as soon as possible.”

The work is part of a major investment in gas network in the Rotherham area. More than six kilometres of gas pipes are expected to be renewed in the borough by April.

Gas engineers may need access to homes and businesses to replace service pipes (the pipes that take gas from the main in the road to individual properties). 

This work will involve briefly interrupting the gas supply and anyone who is affected will be notified beforehand.
