Traffic flowing again after warehouse goes up in flames

CENTENARY Way in Rotherham town centre has re-opened again at the College Road roundabout after a warehouse blaze.

Fire crews responded to a fire at 8.45pm last night and found a derelict carpet showroom on College Road to be well alight.

Four appliances attended from Rotherham, Darnall and Elm Lane fire stations, along with the area platform and support vehicles.

Around one third of the huge building to be ablaze and the roof had begun to collapse, preventing firefighters from entering.

They used a water jet on an aerial platform to prevent the fire from spreading through the building.

Traffic was seriously disrupted earlier today as firefighters battled the blaze.

The warehouse adjoins Masbrough Chapel, which has itself been targeted by arsonists several times this year
