Work starts on Ulley wind farm

PREPARATORY work has started on the site of the £21.9 million wind farm at Ulley.

The development at Penny Hill will comprise half a dozen 132-metre tall turbines.

Banks Renewables — which has two other energy projects in Yorkshire — say around 30 new jobs are being created and local contractors used.

Environment and community director Mark Dowdall said: “Utilising onshore wind farms like Penny Hill to update the UK’s power infrastructure today is already helping to address the energy challenges that we know the 21st century will bring.

“We’re very pleased to be reaching such an important landmark for this scheme.”

Protesting residents sent in 500 letters and a 1,792-signature petition against the wind farm, which was given planning permission in 2010.
