Police launch blitz on burglars

POLICE are beefing up patrols in Rotherham this month in a bid to beat burglars.

Officers will launch burglary and car crime initiatives, which will target suspected offenders throughout the month.

Officers will also be out in town providing security advice for home and vehicle owners.

Det Insp John Hobson said: “Most of the crime committed is as a result of opportunistic thieves finding houses or cars insecure.

“With the lighter evenings coming along and, dare I say, it the potential for warmer weather, shed burglaries become more popular with the latest pride and joy rotary mower being taken before you have even had the chance to tidy up that wintry lawn.

“If you don’t keep your doors, windows and vehicles locked and secure then you run the very high risk of becoming a victim of crime.”
