WOMAN TRAPPED BY WHEELIE BIN BLAZE

POLICE officers rescued a woman from her smoke-logged home a wheelie bin was deliberately torched outside her door

The 35-year-old woman sustained facial burns and suffered from smoke inhalation as she attempted to escape the property on Manor Road, Dinnington, as fire raged in the bin which had been propped up against her main exit at around 5pm yesterday (31).

A police spokeswoman said: “At 5.05am, police were called to a house in Manor Road where they found a wheelie bin that had been pushed up against a door of the property was on fire.

“Police officers used fire extinguishers from their vehicle to put out the flames and lead to safety a 35-year-old woman from the house.

“She was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital where she was treated for smoke inhalation and burns to her face. Nobody else was injured.”

A 23-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life a short time after the incident and are currently in police custody.

Fire crews remained at the scene until 7.20am after ensuring the fire was fully extinguished.
