A resident of the street told the Advertiser that two shots were heard on Victoria Road last night.

Police cordoned off part of the street.

The resident said that a property had been boarded up.

The incident happened just a day after a gun was fired on Frederick Street in the town following which three men were arrested on suspicion of firearm offences.

The men have now been bailed pending further enquiries.

Det Insp Mark Monteiro, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “I understand that this will be extremely concerning for members of the Mexborough community as well as the wider general public.

“At this stage, we cannot say whether the two incidents are linked, however it does appear that they were both targeted and that there is no wider threat to the community.
