Rawmarsh dog attack leaves toddler seriously injured

POLICE are investigating an alleged dog attack which left a two-year-old girl with serious injuries.

Officers responded after reports of a Rottweiler attacking a toddler at an address in Rawmarsh were received at around 9.50am yesterday (6).

The girl, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken to Rotherham Hospital suffering from injuries to her head and to her leg.

She was later transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

A police spokeswoman said: “The dog involved is believed to be a family pet. It was on a lead at the time of the incident and was in the company of the two-year-old girl and an adult female relative.

“The dog has been taken to a secure kennel facility whilst police enquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Issuing an update last night (6) the police spokeswoman described the girl’s condition as “stable and not life-threatening”.
