Psychics exploit our human nature

Sir--I am writing to protest at the ceaseless promotion of clairvoyants and mediumship events in your paper.

No person claiming psychic powers has ever had their claims rigorously verified. We can blithely say that such events are just a bit of fun, or for entertainment purposes only, but your wwebsite seems to be positioning the Steve Holbrook night as an opportunity for people to communicate with their deceased relatives ('Why medium Steve Holbrook says he's got evidence of life after death').

It seems to me that a respected local paper should be taking no part in such a cynical attempt to profit from grief, particularly when there is absolutely no evidence that Mr Holbrook can indeed perform the paranormal feats he claims to be capable of.

I consider it morally repugnant that vulnerable bereaved people might come to these events and pay their fee expecting some solace, only to receive non-committal statements and half-truths.

So-called psychics exploit our human nature in the most base way, and promoting this kind of superstition does nobody any favours.
