New boy in contention

NEW signing Danny Lafferty is in contention for a swift Championship debut for Rotherham United this weekend.

In on loan for a month from Premier League outfit Burnley, the left-back will travel with the squad to Huddersfield Town and is sure to come into manager Steve Evans' thoughts.

Lafferty (25) has been with the Clarets for three years and is a current Northern Ireland international, accumulating ten senior caps.

He turned out a dozen times for Burnley as they won promotion to the top flight last season but has only featured twice this term and is desperate to play games.

Rotherham have brought him in with a view to extending the deal to the end of the season and Evans is delighted to have him.

“I've tried to get Danny Lafferty before so I was pleased and surprised when Sean Dyche agreed to let him join us,” he said.

“We've signed a player who can play left-back, as a left-sided centre-half and left-midfield. He's got a great left foot and he's a quality defender.”
