Labour Party has its snout in the trough

I WRITE with regard to the list of RMBC councillors expenses as published on July 19.

Yet again everyone will be in awe at the amounts being paid for so little return.

I think readers will be interested in the not so well known fact of where our council tax actually goes.

Every Labour RMBC councillor has to donate approximately seven per cent of the expenses they receive to the Labour Party, two per cent to the central party and the other five to the local Labour group. So our hard earned council tax money is being used to subsidise the Labour Party, with the remainder being used to contribute to the election expenses of the Labour members who are standing next year (extremely unfair when all the Independents who stand have to pay all their own election costs).

Here in Anston that means, of the expenses claimed by Cllr Jo Burton and Judy Dalton, (approximately £26,745.34), a whopping £1,872.17 goes to the party machine. Outrageous that we have no choice in the matter. My advice to all who live in Anston next year when they are knocking on your door for a vote, ask them to explain why they think it’s appropriate to use our money to subsidise their election campaigns. Snouts in troughs as usual.
