Arrests made in alleged elderly man attack

Officers received reports from an 85-year-old man that he had been burgled at his home on Milton Road, Mexborough.

A police spokeswoman said: “It is reported that the man heard banging to the rear window and door of his property.

“It is believed two men were outside. When the elderly man wouldn’t open the door, it is alleged the two men kicked the door in and pushed past the elderly man causing him to fall onto his bed.

“One of the men reportedly ripped a small metal safe from a cabinet, and then both men allegedly ran off.”

A 55-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both from Swinton, have been arrested in connection with the incident which happened at around 11.30am on May 9.

They have both been bailed pending further enquiries.
