‘Life-changing’ Rotherham Show opportunity for young musicians

YOUNG aspiring musicians in Rotherham will have the opportunity to perform in one of the most iconic attractions at the Rotherham Show.

Young musicians from the Music Hub and Dalton Listerdale Junior School will be attending master classes with Colourscape musicians, Ansuman Biswas and Michael Ormiston next week leading up to the show and then will perform in the Colourscape structure with them at the Rotherham Show.

Organised by Open Minds Theatre Company in partnership with Eye Music Trust and supported by the Arts Council these master classes will allow young people to explore contemporary improvising techniques and innovative approaches to music with two of the most exciting contemporary improvising musicians in the country.

Steve Rogers, Artistic Director of OMTC said: “I hope that this will prove a life changing experience for these young people.

“Both Ansuman and Michael are extraordinary creative practitioners and providing the opportunity for young musicians to work with them is a natural development for Rotherham Colourscape Festival. Nothing but the best for Rotherham!!”

Craig Roberts, Headteacher of Dalton Listerdale Junior and Infant School said : “It is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians to be immersed in music and the company of such inspirational world-class musicians as Michael and Ansuman.  “Performing in the Colourscape structure with its magical atmosphere and amazing acoustics will, I am sure, be an experience for Listerdale’s musicians and their families that will stay with them for ever.  Careers in the arts are often seen as less worthy than other paths but society is built on culture and culture is built upon the arts  — without them, civilisation is lost. You can’t say that for all vocations.

“At Listerdale, we feel that all forms of creativity in all areas of learning are fundamental to our ability to achieve. Music is just as important as Maths — without the one, there cannot be the other.
