Search for a children's library champion

LIBRARIES are on the look out for a children's champion to help inspire young people's love for reading.

Barnsley Libraries has hosted hundreds of events for parents and children to enjoy this year, but are now searching for a library champion to help engage families with local services.

Cllr Jenny Platts, cabinet spokeswoman for communities, said: “We’re looking for people who have a passion for reading, arts and crafts, rhymes or song.

“Help us to inspire a love of reading in our young people that can last a life time.”

Typical activities for the children’s library champion would involve supervising events such as story times, sing-alongs and promoting the annual Summer Reading Challenge.

Barnsley Libraries said the ideal candidate would not just be a volunteer but someone who can champion local library services and encourage others to use them.

To find out more join library staff at Central Library, Wellington Street on November 15, from 1pm to 3pm.
