Summer fun for Dearne Valley kids

A SUMMER of fun is in store for Dearne Valley youngsters after a range of fun activities were announced to keep kids busy during the holidays.

A new all-day Summer Club, which runs until August 15, includes sessions on art, archaeology, dinosaurs and fossil hunting aimed at eight-to-12-year-olds, and is taking place at Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery in Chequer Road, Doncaster.

There are also free quizzes and trails around the museum, and an Art Cart filled with free activities that help younger children develop their artistic skills.

The museum, open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4.30pm and Saturday 10.30am to 4.15pm, has a varied programme of art exhibitions and is also home to the Regimental Museum of the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.

Cllr Bob Johnson, Cabinet member for leisure and culture, for Doncaster Council, said: “The Museum and Art Gallery is a great family day out and tells the story of the borough since the last Ice Age using natural history, archaeology, local history and fine and decorative art.

“Our activity sessions are a great way for parents and carers to keep children entertained over the long summer holidays.”

The Summer Club is run by Museum Education staff, and takes 20 children per day from 9.30am to 4pm at £14 per child.

Prior booking is essential but the Art Cart does not need to be booked in advance.
