ASTON FOOTPATH WALKERS: January 14 – short walk was from Fox House to Burbage Edge and Hathersage. January 21 – seven mile walk from Harthill to Netherthorpe, Turnerwood, Lindrick Dale and Anston Stones Wood. Last Sunday’s walk was from Church Lane, Aston to Nickerwood, Low Laithes Farm, Hardwick and back to Aston. Yesterday’s walk was from Deepcar to Penistone.

 

PARISH COUNCIL: A meeting of Aston-cum-Aughton Parish Council took place on January 12. Chairperson Cllr Pitchley opened the proceedings with public participation in which a member of the public brought up the problem of irresponsible parking at Aughton Early Years blocking pavement access for pedestrians. Another member of the public spoke about the pillar box on Lodge Lane being moved closer to the Post Office shop. There were statistics relating to recent burglaries in the area and the nuisance of quad bikes being used in Burgoyne Park and the surrounding area. Council discussed the concern over the traffic flow at the junction of Aston Lane and Aughton Main Street and the issue is to be brought up with RMBC and suggestions made for temporary traffic lights to be operated at peak times and the siting of permanent traffic lights at Aughton crossroads to reduce the flow of regular traffic at all times. Various planning issues were discussed and a date was set for an extraordinary parish council meeting to consider the precept for 2016/17 on January 26. The next meeting is on February 9 7.15pm.

THE LODGE CARE HOME, SWALLOWNEST: Easter Fayre on March 19 1pm – there will be bric-a-brac stalls, raffle, tombola. All proceeds go to service users’ activities funds.

 

HISTORY GROUP: January 18 – a talk was given by railway enthusiast Stephen Gay called Railways in a Yorkshire Landscape. The next talk is in the Reading Room on February 15 7pm by David Templeman on Sheffield Castle and Manor Lodge.
