Those who earned medals are not recognised

THE letter from Steve Bentham-Bates (Advertiser August 22) asks people from the forces if in financial trouble seek out help.

Perhaps Ian Duncan Smith, the Tory minister behind the missed appointment stop the benefit, should have also thought about passing ex-servicemen and women’s details (who he really classed as benefit scroungers) onto the charities Bentham-Bates mentions. As for the people at London’s Cenotaph with more than six medals, I know of one who did’'t finish his training and daddy had to fetch him home in the middle of the night. Another one, this time a female member of the same family, has more medals than shoes and never served in the forces.

The soldiers who have, and really earned their medals, don’t get to the front at the Cenotaph, they only get to the front in conflicts.

So once again readers in November on Remembrance Day give a thought and buy a poppy for all the Lance Corporals like David Clapson.

If you know of any ex-service man or woman in trouble please let the authorities know.
