Man of Steel plans resubmitted

PLANS for the £2.7 million Man of Steel have been resubmitted to Rotherham Borough Council.

The original permission, granted in 2012, included a three-year start condition which expired last week.

The 27.3m man, designed by sculptor Steve Mehdi, is proposed to perch on the hillside at Kimberworth, overlooking the M1.

Planning documents said: “The main aim is to provide a unique landmark, which will provide additional stimulus to the regeneration around the site and the local economy.

“Due to the requirement to manufacture much of the installation off-site, the applicant has not yet reached the position where they are able to commence construction on site.

“No material changes have occurred between applications.”
