SURGERY TIMES: Cllr John Turner, who represents the Hellaby ward on Rotherham Council, holds a surgery at Wickersley Library and Community Centre, Bawtry Road, on the first Tuesday of each month 5.30-6.30pm.

WICKERSLEY PROBUS CLUB: Members met at the Barn when chairman Jack Turner introduced speaker John Hoare who gave a talk on unusual places he had found whilst journeying from Land’s End to John O’Groats. The speaker at the Barn on October 2 would be Pat McLaughlin whose subject is Cathedrals and Their Building. 

 

WICKERSLEY C I BOWLING CLUB: The final club competition of the season was held on September 27. 26 members entered the Turkey Trot competition organised by John Fisher. It was played in two groups and all competitors played a total of 40 ends. The winners and runners-up in each group played each other for first, second, third and fourth places. Jenny Shaw and Garry Bellamy played Pat Burton and Barry Shaw, Jenny and Garry being the overall winners in a tight match of 10 ends. Pat Kempster and Derek Bates played Shirley Hitchens and Gerald Horsfield for third and fourth places with Pat and Derek being the winners in their match. Each of the couples will be presented with prizes of meat vouchers at the forthcoming presentation evening on October 9 at the Sitwell Golf Club. The AGM is at the pavilion on October 24 2pm.

 

WICKERSLEY METHODIST WIVES GROUP: September 21 – the group held its AGM when outgoing president Mrs Gill Cuthbert chaired the meeting in the absence of Rev Joyce Barrass. There were 15 members present. Gill Cuthbert gave the president’s report and said it had been her privilege to have been president during the 50th anniversary year. Treasurer Mrs Anita Taylor gave her report indicating that the group had raised less in the last year owing to fewer members and only meeting every two weeks during the winter months. However, efforts during the year had raised a total of £800 to be distributed as Rotherham Hospice £400 and Wickersley Methodist Church £400. The date of the presentation service will be October 26 7.30pm in the church coffee lounge. It was put forward to members that meetings are every two weeks commencing in October and not just during the winter months. This was agreed. Officials elected for 2015/16 – president Mrs Margaret Baldry, vice president Mrs Marjorie Mottershaw, secretary Mrs Irene Hartley, social secretary Mrs Margaret Baldry, treasurer Mrs Anita Taylor, assistant treasurer Mrs Anne Hampshire, committee Mrs Gill Cuthbert, Mrs Freda McNally, Mrs Helen Thickitt. On Monday the group visited Pastures Moo ice cream parlour in Wath when the owner gave an outline of how the business had started up in 2012 culminating in them opening the ice cream parlour earlier this year in Wath. The next meeting is October 12 which will be a members’ evening preparing gifts for the Autumn fair on October 17.
