WHAT'S ON: Treeton

TREETON LIBRARY: The library is held at Treeton Baptist Church every Tuesday 9.30am-12.30pm to exchange books and jigsaws. During school holidays Bookworms activity classes are held for children.

TREETON COMMUNITY AND RESOURCE CENTRE: There will be a table top sale on October 10. Tables £5, to book contact the centre or Terry Adair 07886520586.

HOUSING SURGERY: Treeton residents are invited to attend a drop-in session every Thursday 10.15-11.30am at Treeton Reading Rooms where they can discuss any problems relating to housing, anti-social behaviour, crime and the environment. The police, RMBC, Streetpride and Cllr John Swift are usually at these sessions. If anyone has a matter to discuss in private, make this known on arrival.

COUNCILLOR'S SURGERY: Cllr Darren Hughes of Rother Vale ward will hold a surgery every Friday 5pm at Treeton Community and Resource Centre.

TREETON LOCAL HISTORY GROUP: At September’s meeting, Valerie Oxley and Julia Colver gave a talk about Firbeck Hall in the 18th Century.

NADFAS: Members of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts, along with local volunteers, have been working in St Helen’s Church for the past few months compiling an inventory of the medieval church’s furnishings and fittings. This will take at least three years and the findings will be in the form of a book which will be presented to various organisations including the V&A Museum and a copy will be kept in the church. 

TREETON PARISH COUNCIL: At a recent meeting, correspondence was received from RV West Area Assembly about the Women’s Front Evaluation Report. Also Yorkshire Local Councils Association sent a copy of its annual review 2015 which was passed to Cllr Cooper. Under Allotment, Environment and Cemeteries, it was reported that the work on the seat bases in the Wood Lane burial ground had been completed. The clerk asked the councilors if they still wished the administration of these to be handled by Foers funeral directors and this was agreed at a charge of £75 per seat.

Under Recreation Grounds and Play Areas, it was reported that the Cow Field fence has again been repaired and there were concerns about dog fouling on the field. In public question time Mrs Gill voiced her concerns about lorries coming through the village and cars driving on to the Mill Lane play area. In Any Other Urgent Business, Cllr Cooper asked if the village could have more floral displays next year, this will be discussed with the footpath officer. Cllr Badger suggested that the village school may get involved in this. It was also discussed that the council may consider paying the living wage rather than the minimum wage to its employees next year. The clerk outlined the accounts to date and produced a copy of the cash book and up-to-date finance statements.
