Focus on Vale test

ROTHERHAM United gun for a fifth straight away league win when they take on Port Vale today.

Steve Evans men make the trip to Vale Park on an eight-match unbeaten league run and fresh from a 1-0 victory at Yorkshire rivals Bradford City on Boxing Day.

The results have established the Millers in the League One play-off frame, five points ahead of Vale, but manager Evans is wary of what happened on the same ground last year, when his side were hit for six.

“We know how tough it is going to be and don’t forget they gave us a hiding there last year and that will be at the forefront of their supporters’ minds,” he said. “But there’s not too many of our players left from that game – I think there’s maybe one that might start who started that one.

“I get on extremely well with Port Vale’s manager (Micky Adams) and win, lose or draw we’ll have a beer. It will be a good atmosphere and hopefully we’ll take a decent support across.”

Rotherham will run checks on Claude Davis and Haris Vuckic, both of whom limped out of the win at Bradford.
