THREE people have been knocked down by a van which skidded on black ice — including the driver of a van which crashed through a garden fence just moments earlier.

Two people joined the driver on Brecks Crescent, The Brecks after he climbed unhurt from his vehicle shortly before 9am on Friday. Moments later they were all struck by a van which hit the same patch of ice.

Kevin Smith (64) of Brecks Crescent said: “The ice has been terrible — it’s absolutely treacherous.

“I heard a vehicle skidding then I heard an almighty bang,” he added.

“The first van has missed the bay window of a house by two or three feet, so it was a lucky escape in that respect, but I don’t know what state the people who were hit are in.”

Fire engines and ambulances attended the scene, but spokespeople were not available on Friday afternoon to confirm the status of the three patients.
