Brave point for Millers

Matt Derbyshire’s early strike paved the way for a dominant first-half display but Ross McCormack’s 67th minute leveller meant Steve Evans’ men had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The result nudged them five points above Millwall in third bottom spot in the Championship.

After twice being foiled inside the opening seconds, Derbyshire made it stick on four minutes when he prodded home after Fulham failed to clear Ben Pringle’s corner.

Although Jack Hunt had to head a Matt Smith header off the line, Rotherham looked comfortable and could have been in the clear.

Kirk Broadfoot planted a header straight at goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli and the big stopper had to dash from his line to deny Derbyshire a second.

As Fulham toiled, Ward slid a shot just wide and Broadfoot brought another fine stop from the home stopper.

Even when Bryan Ruiz broke through in a rare home raid, Emi Martinez was equal to him.

The home side improved in the second half and drew levelled when McCormick spun in the area and shot in off a post.

The balance of the game changed and although the Millers were forced to do more defending, the only real threat came when substitute Tim Hoogland missed a good chance at the far post.

Rotherham pressed for a late winner and although maximum points eluded them, it was a gritty performance in what has been a difficult week.
