Make sure you register to vote

VOTERS are being urged to ensure that they are registered to have their say in the upcoming European Parliamentary and Rotherham Borough Council elections.

With the polling booths opening for two major elections next month officials at the borough council are reminding residents that they must be properly registered in order to have their say on who represents them.

The European Parliamentary and borough council elections take place on May 22,  but only for those registered to vote by May 6.

A council spokeswoman said: “Many people think they are automatically registered because they pay council tax, but this is not true.

“Poll cards will be sent to everyone registered to vote just before the Easter weekend, so if you do not receive one, you may not be registered.”

If you are unsure, you can call Electoral Services on 01709 823590 to check.

You can get a registration application form from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk or by calling Electoral Services.
