Police condemn rapist's "grotesque" crimes

POLICE have described rapist Nicholas Totty’s attacks as “the most grotesque and hideous of crimes.”

The 26-year-old man who attacked two women in the street and went on to rape a teenage girl has been jailed for life today.

Totty, of Newman Road, Rotherham, had admitted four counts of rape, wounding with intent, assault with intent to commit a sexual offence and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm at an earlier hearing.

He appeared at Sheffield Crown Court today, where he was sentenced to life and ordered to serve a minimum of ten years.

Det Supt Lisa Ray said after the hearing: "This was the most grotesque and hideous of crimes.

“It is difficult to find the words to truly describe the gravity of Totty's actions and the lifechanging impact it will have had on all the victims he attacked during that night of terror.”

Det Supt Ray praised the victims’ bravery and dignity, adding: “I hope the fact that Totty is now off the streets and facing life in jail will help give them some closure.”
