Police van will become museum piece thanks to PCC grant

A FORMER police riot van will be brought back into action as a moving museum piece thanks to a new £3,400 grant.

The Ford Transit long wheel base public order vehicle — AKA riot van — currently housed at the National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield will be recommissioned and taken around the counry to educate children about the history of the emergency services.

Police and crime commissioner Dr Alan Billings has allocated the museum £3,400 towards the NESM on Tour project.

The van was “retired” in 2014 but will now become a mobile education unit used to reach schools and areas of the community that are unable to visit the museum.
