Extra police patrol scene of robbery

POLICE on off-road bikes patrolled an area where a man suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung in a robbery.

Ten officers, on foot and on bikes, spent Tuesday afternoon at Morthen Road and Sandy Flat Lane in Wickersley. 

It followed reports of nuisance vehicles and the robbery of a 61-year-old man October 25.

The victim and his wife had been walking on fields behind Quarry Field Lane when they were approached by two men from a group of six on off-road bikes.

Acting Det Sgt Richard Gladwin said: “We believe two members of the group demanded that the victim hand over his mobile phone. 

“When he refused to, a male seriously assaulted him, punching and kicking him repeatedly before taking his phone.

“We are undertaking all enquiries to identify the male responsible and would urge anyone who has information about this robbery, including those in the group, to come forward.”
