Four fire engines were called to the scene at 8.50pm and left more than two hours later.

A South Yorkshire Fire Service spokesperson said: “The building was badly damaged but not gutted.”

Meanwhile, on the same night, rubbish was set alight on purpose in Wombwell.

The incident happened on High Street and took a crew from Dearne fire station half an hour to bring under control.
