Jobs hope as Parcelforce depot gets go-ahead

ROYAL Mail is planning to create a new Parcelforce base in Rotherham, with the promise of 170 full-time jobs.

Rotherham Borough Council has granted permission for alterations at a distribution centre in Templeborough to create a Parcelforce depot which will handle the distribution of parcles in the area.

A spokesman said: “The alterations will enable the reuse of a building in a key employment area representing signification investment and job creation in the borough.”

The depot is at Unit 1, on the Magna 34 business park.

Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene said: “Our £75 million investment is part of Royal Mail Group’s strategy to grow its parcels businesses in the UK and overseas.

“The investment will enable the group’s express parcels business to meet the rapid growth in demand in the business-to-business, business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer markets.”

The development lies on the former site of a Roman fort and has been subject to a number of archaeological investigations.
