A WOMAN was grabbed by the hair and a man punched during an attack on a train travelling between Mexborough and Conisbrough.

Detectives from British Transport Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident on January 4.

The alleged assault took place at around 11.30pm on the 10.20pm Hull to Sheffield train.

Det Con Andy Lehman, the investigating officer, said: “A group of friends from Doncaster were travelling on the train when a man charged towards one of the females in the group, he pointed in her face then verbally abused her.

“When she tried to push his hand away the man grabbed her by the hair and pushed her into other members of the group.

"One of the male members of the group stood up to help his friend but was assaulted several times, resulting in bruising to his face and a cut lip.

“The train conductor intervened and the man was removed from the train at Mexborough station where he continued to bang on the train windows and threaten the group.”

Officers have followed several lines of enquiry and have since obtained an image of a man they are hoping members of the public may recognise.

DC Lehman added: “The man's behaviour was utterly unacceptable and we are determined to find the person responsible.

“If you were on the train that day, or recognise the man in the picture, then please get in touch.”
