"Resign" call over CSE scandal

COUNCILLORS faced calls to resign at a public meeting today from members of the public following the emergence of the Rotherham child sex scandal.

Acting council leader Paul Lakin and chief executive Martin Kimber were barracked from a packed public gallery during the Cabinet meeting at the Town Hall.

Members of the Cabinet voted to approve Mr Kimber's report on investigator Alexis Jay's report, which said the council should adopt all the Jay Report's recommendations.

Cllr Lakin would not comment on the conduct of councillors, pointing out that the Labour Party itself had suspended four members and would be taking further action.

The acting leader said it was "shameful" that police and crime commissioner Shaun Wright had yet to resign.
