Residents' fury at flytipping

FRUSTRATED residents have decried the protracted problem of dumped rubbish blighting Eastwood.

Huge amounts of household waste included a pile dumped behind one house on Grosvenor Road with mattresses, clothes and carpets.

A settee was among items left on nearby Bethel Road in photos taken by one resident last Friday morning.

He said: “You don’t have to go far at all to see sights like this. It’s disgraceful.

“It seems to come in fits and starts. You’ll have a quiet period and then all of a sudden it’s all over.

“Most of the back yards are full of waste anyway. It’s all waiting to come out onto the streets.

“The photo showing the back of a house was cleared up by Tuesday. It seems someone has been out quickly and moved it all.

“I don’t know if it was the council or not because they haven’t replied to me.”

Rotherham Borough Council introduced the selective licensing policy last year to clamp down on private landlords allowing anti-social behaviour.

But the resident, who asked not to be named, added: “The council is saying it has the landlords’ scheme in place, but the place still looks like this.

“It’s been a problem for ten years or more now. It just gets worse.

“It’s very sad because it makes the area look disgusting and dirty. If you’re inviting people to the area, this is what they see.”
