Good finish for Millers

ROTHERHAM United ended their Championship campaign with a well-earned point against Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

A crowd of nearly 32,000 at Elland Road saw Steve Evans’ men give as good as they got in a well contested goalless draw.

Rotherham’s best work came in the first half, when they enjoyed good spells of possession and looked the likelier going forward. Daniel Lafferty put a diving header wide from a Lee Frecklington cross and a good passing move deserved a better ending when Danny Ward’s close-range effort hit team-mate Matt Derbyshire on its way to goal.

When Leeds did fashion their first clear chance, Kari Arnason popped up with a important tackle on Charlie Taylor as he cocked to shoot.

The home side raised their game in the second half. The recalled Lawrie Wilson blocked from Alex Mowatt and substitute Billy Sharp was crowded out in a goalmouth scramble.

A late push saw Emi Martinez twice tested, first parrying a drive from substitute Brian Montenegro and then Sol Bamba’s close-range header.

Steve Evans introduced all his substitutes to freshen things up and one of them, Jonson Clarke-Harris, flashed a late free-kick wide.
