Man jailed for battering policeman

A MAN who beat up a policeman outside a Rotherham pub has been jailed.

Michael Dolan, who had been been drinking for more than seven hours and was pumped up on steroids when he attacked PC Glen Hill outside the Mailcoach on Wellgate.

He was caught on CCTV punching the officer and using the officer’s CS gas spray to beat him about the head.

Sheffield Crown Court heard that PC Hill had responded to a disturbance caused by a row about smoking in the pub.

He had tried to arrest Dolan’s stepson, but Dolan had intervened.

Dolan, of Fitzwilliam Road, Eastwood, admitted wounding and was jailed for two years and eight months.

The court heard he could not remember what had happened.
