Met Office warn of icy roads

MOTORISTS have been warned of icy conditions on the borough’s roads this evening (Monday) as temperatures plummet.

The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for ice and snow from 5pm.

It said snow will be limited to high ground but there is a risk of icy patches on roads across northern England.

The Met Office chief forecaster said: “A weather front will move eastwards on Monday afternoon and evening bringing rain to much of the north and west.

The rain is expected to fall as snow above 200-300m for a time on Monday, but will turn back to rain by the early hours of Tuesday morning.

“There will also be a risk of patchy ice where rain, sleet and snow fall on frozen surfaces.

“Be aware that some localised travel disruption is likely, mainly over high level routes of north Wales and northern England."
