Extra beds for homeless in Dearne Valley

EXTRA beds have been found for people who are homeless across Doncaster this winter.

Doncaster Council’s contractor, M25 Housing and Support Group, has set aside ten beds at Wharf House in Doncaster town centre from now until March 2014.

Anyone who is currently homeless can simply call in or be referred by another agency where appropriate.

Deputy Mayor Glyn Jones, Cabinet member for housing, said: “Although our rough sleeper count is low in Doncaster, our aim is that no Doncaster resident will be without a bed during the cold winter months.”

Joyce Foster, executive director at M25, added: “We are delighted to be extending our services to rough sleepers in Doncaster through this increased provision with skilled, experienced staff.

“The reasons for people coming to Wharf House are varied but many of those who are homeless are struggling with personal and health issues.

“For that reason some end up staying for a number of months and receiving support to break out of street life.

“To assist those who have been receiving help and are ready to move towards more independent living, the council has also commissioned 14 new units of supported accommodation in the community from M25.”
