Man in court charged with East Dene arson attacks

A MAN has appeared in court charged with two counts of arson after he allegedly attacked the same home.

Joseph Dethick (26), of South Crescent, East Dene, appeared at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with two counts of arson.

The charges relate to two incidents on Friday at a semi-detached property on Dene Crescent, East Dene, the second of which happened at 11pm..

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said crews arrived at the scene on Friday at 11.25pm.

The front door and hallway were alight when firefighters arrived.

The homeowners were not at home at the time of the blaze, which took two fire crews from Rotherham and two from Dearne station, to bring under control in around 90 minutes.

The case was sent to Sheffield Crown Court, where he will appear on September 7.

He was granted conditional bail.
