Motorists warned over gas work road closures

WORKS being carried out to keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in Mexborough could take until next year to complete.

National Grid is laying 750 metres of new gas pipe in Pastures Road and Doncaster Road to meet increased demand for gas.

The £200,000 project, which started last Wednesday, is expected to take 15 weeks and will start in Pastures Road, working down towards Doncaster Road.

To carry out the work safely traffic management measures will be needed and will be run in three phases.

During the first phase of work, which is now underway, there will be temporary two-way traffic lights which will move down Pastures Road as the work progresses.

During phase two, there will be a lane closure in Pastures Road.

During the third phase, New Street will be temporarily closed and there will be temporary traffic lights at the junction of Church Street, New Street and Doncaster Road.

Timings for phases two and three are due to be confirmed shortly.

Paul Martin, National Grid authorising engineer, said: “National Grid’s job is to connect people to the energy they use and this project will keep the gas flowing to local businesses and residents for decades to come.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused but this work is essential to ensure local people continue to have enough gas to meet their needs.”

The work is being carried out on behalf of National Grid by a partnership between Skanska and Morrison Utility Services.
