Dearne Valley charity sports day in memory of tragic student

STUDENTS are hosting a charity football and badminton tournament next week in memory of a former classmate.

Dearne Valley College’s sports studies students will don football kit and pick up their racquets in tribute to Steven Dannatt, who died last year.

Steven’s's family will be in attendance at the charity challenge from 11am to 3pm next Wednesday, where organisers hope 100 students will turn out and play in his honour.

A memorial tournament of a similar kind was held at the college soon after the tragedy and this students are hoping to follow in its success with the charity football and badminton tournament at the college’s sports centre.

Tutor Stuart Prentice said: “Our students are really hoping to raise a target amount of £500 for charity in memory of Steven.

“It will also account for a part of the assessment for their course, so the students will be working hard to pull it off successfully.”

The students will be charging £2 per ticket and will also be hosting a charity raffle on the day.
