Thrybergh Post Office staff in robbery shock

TWO masked men subjected Post Office workers to “shocking and violent” robbery which resulted in the theft of their car.

Terrified postal workers at the Post Office on Hollings Lane, Thrybergh, had their silver Toyota Corolla stolen after the two men forced their way into living quarters above the shop in the early hours of Saturday.

The men then confronted the two residents, who also run the Post Office, and demanded cash.

After a “number of hours” the two men — who are believed to have been in possession of a gun — fled in the couple’s car.

Det Con Ellen Speight said: “This was a shocking and violent robbery carried out over a number of hours. We believe the suspects fled in a vehicle belonging to the residents shortly before 9am.

“We are urgently trying to trace this vehicle and would appeal anyone who saw it as it fled the scene to call police immediately.

“The victims have been understandably left incredibly shaken by the ordeal but thankfully are physically unharmed.

“The area around the Post Office may have been busy at the time of the morning with people visiting shops nearby and using the main road. Did you see anyone acting suspiciously? Did you see the suspects as they made their getaway?”

No one was injured in the incident but the couple were left incredibly shaken by the ordeal.

Both suspects were wearing grey tracksuits at the time of the raid.

One had his face covered with a black balaclava and the other with a red one.

Anyone with information that might help police in their investigation is being urged to contact South Yorkshire Police by dialling 101, quoting incident number 400 of December 21.
