Public prayer meetings held

PUBLIC prayer meetings will be held in Rotherham later this week to bring communities together in the wake of the town’s child sex scandal.

Churches Together Rotherham want people to “reclaim the streers” with prayer gatherings on Thursday.

Two gatherings, led by local ministers and pastoral leaders, will take place at Clifton Park’s main entrance at the corner of Doncaster Road and Clifton Lane from 7pm and at Riverside House in Main Street at the same.

Those attending will then meet at Rotherham Minster at 7.45pm before a service inside the church from 8pm.

Churches Togethe secretary Ted Ring said: “We hope as many people as possible will be able to join in and pray for the town.

“There has already been much support for these gatherings, from church leaders, from Churches Together in South Yorkshire, and other people of faith in the area.

“We want and need a widespread public show of caring concern for the town of Rotherham at this difficult time.”
