Swinton choir warms up for seasonal singsongs

IT MAY be cold outside but choir members are warming up their vocals for this year’s charity festive performance.

The Margaret Duckworth Singers will host Christmas Celebration at St Margaret’s Parish Church in Swinton at 7pm on Thursday, December 12.

Members are pleased to welcome back All Star Brass as their guests along with Geoff Druett as compere for the evening.

A choir spokeswoman said: “Margaret has always supported the hospice movement as her main charity throughout her professional career.

“She has been organising concerts in the area for various charities and churches for more than 60 years but the main Christmas concerts have always been for a hospice.

“Originally it was for St Luke’s in Sheffield but, once formulated, her support was for the Rotherham Hospice.

“Please come and join us for what is always a happy occasion and help us to make it a successful evening for such a worthy cause.”

The choir is also singing at the annual Rotherham Hospice Light up a Life ceremony at Rotherham Minster on Sunday, December 8, when the organist will be Hugh Finnegan of St Marie’s Catholic Cathedral in Sheffield.

Tickets for Christmas Celebration are now on sale priced £8 for adults and £4 for children.

They are available from choir members, Swinton, Wath and Mexborough libraries or via www.margaretduckworthsingers.co.uk.
