Brasstonbury comes to Whiston

TEN brass bands will be blowing their own trumpets in a festival of fine music this weekend which has been dubbed Brasstonbury.

 

Whiston Festival of Brass will pitch bands from across South Yorkshire and beyond against each other from 1.30pm on Saturday afternoon. 

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Maggi Clark, before bands take it in turn to march through the village to the purpose-built outdoor stage at the village green to perform a 25-minute programme of entertainment to a seated audience.

Entry is free and the entertainment will go on until 8pm.

The village will also host children’s rides, a fun fair, craft and village style fate stalls, hog roasts, ice cream vans, BBQs and food and drink, outdoor bars, tombolas, raffles, competitions and finally a Brass for all concert in the evening featuring Hatfield Brass.
