St Bede’s Primary School applies for later opening

A PRIMARY school has asked to be allowed to open later so it can host sports events in the evenings.

St Bede’s, at Kimberworth, is currently restricted to a 6pm close under a planning condition from 2019. The school has asked Rotherham Council for permission to extend this until 8pm in order to host events.

Headteacher Amanda Wassell said: “At present, we have restricted use until 6pm. This is very limiting for the school as we want to host sporting events which often don’t start until 5pm.

“There are also times when local community football teams would like to use the facilities beyond 6pm. We would like to extend the times on weekdays to 9am to 8pm, and have access on a weekend should we need it.

“This is an amazing facility we have which is currently underused and could be used by the wider community with the restrictions removed.”
