This year’s project – for youngsters aged four to 11 – was themed around the power of play, sport and games.

The Mayor of Rotherham, Cllr Robert Taylor, and social inclusion cabinet member Cllr David Sheppard presented 15 lucky winners with a free annual pass for Magna.

Cllr Sheppard said: “Over 6,000 books have been read by Rotherham children this summer thanks to this wonderful initiative, which aims to keep imaginations moving over the school holidays. I’d like to congratulate each and every child who got involved and took up the challenge.”

The event at Magna included performances from cycle stunt team Savage Skills, professional mountain bike rider Andrei Burton and parkour expert Tudor Asaftei.

The reading challenge involved free materials from libraries and online.
