Double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington passes on her swim tips: WATCH

Dearne High won a competition to have a special visit from Rebecca, whose Beijing brace was among the British highlights from the last Games.

The 21-year-old, from Mansfield, spent Wednesday at the Goldthorpe school, enjoying a question and answer session with Year 9 youngsters and presenting the school with swimming equipment.

After she watched a group of 11 to 16-year-olds hit the pool and offered valuable tips and advice to improve their technique in the water.

Rebecca said: “I think just to get people into sport in general is a positive thing, and if it’s swimming then even better because obviously I love swimming.

“It’s a good way to get people into sport. When I was young I absolutely loved going swimming with family and friends at weekends or when you’re on holiday.

“So it’s great that these pupils have such a fantastic facility right next door to their school. All children should have the opportunity to take to the water in a safe and fun way.

“My aim is to get as many children swimming as possible and so I’m here to help these youngsters improve their technique and have fun.”

Rebecca is the face of swimwear brand Speedo’s Learn To Swim campaign for children.

The first stage of the project encourages parents to introduce babies to being in the water safely. Next is the beginning of lessons, with floats and armbands.

Finally, Learn To Swim aims to build confidence under the water and inspiring them to continue swimming into adulthood.
