Wath Tesco staff go blue for Avatar release

IF you go down to Tesco today, you’re sure of a big surprise.

At the Wath branch, at least, you’ll be greated by people with blue faces.

This is all down to the release of Avatar on DVD, as branches across the country paint the faces of their staff (well some of them) Na’vi-style to draw extra attention to the arrival of James Cameron’s all-conquering 3D behemoth in shops.

The friendly blonde cashier who served me (and had escaped from being painted herself) said that it was all part of a nationwide contest where the bunch of blue-faced staff adjudged the best would scoop a prize.

If this kind of treatment is doled out to all box office hits, I look forward to swords and sandals for Clash of the Titans and bow-wielding shelf-stackers for Robin Hood.

Although that’s probably against health and safety.
