Speaking up for the youth of today

Sir- I for one, and every single young person that I speak to is fed up of the bad press which affects young people in this area and, indeed, throughout the rest of the UK.

I am 16 and a member of youth parliament, representing Rotherham.

I know that there is a minority that is anti-social and does not respect authority, however no efforts are made by press or media to record the efforts made by young people to remove the stereotypes from society.

Last year the youth parliament made history by being the first non MPs to debate  issues in the House of Commons, but where was the press?

A few short articles appeared in newspapers and a few pictures on the internet were all that recorded the historical event.

The whole thing was televised on BBC parliament so I urge you, people of Rotherham, to listen to me and the other young people representing you, your children, your family and your friends in parliament again on Friday October 29.

Chloe Shaw.
