Regular contibuter presented with a bound edition of the Rotherham Advertiser from the year he was born

REGULAR contributor to our letters pages Andrew Redding (see above) was delighted to be presented with a bound edition of the Advertiser from 1961.

Andrew (pictured right) received the year’s collection of papers from Advertiser financial director David Norman and said: “We would have been reading the Advertiser for over 80 years, as we read it at my grandma’s and have been reading it ever since.

“To say I was pleased to receive the bound copies would be an understatement.

“I think that all the archives should be digitised and put online as there would be a lot of interest, and you could even charge a fee!

“It’s a win, win!

“We continue to read it to keep up with local news.”

Reading the old copies even inspired Andrew to make a retro purchase.

He added: “I particularly enjoyed the period adverts for the shops that aren’t in Rotherham anymore, eg Tom Marsh, Blythe Model Dairies and Roys Wireless stores.

“I even ended up buying a Kodak Retinette Camera on eBay in response to an advert (pictured above) in one of the editions!
