RAWMARSH SCHOOL: teachers are letting down pupils

Sir--In relation to the strikes at Rawmarsh comprehensive how can the teachers say that they have the pupils best interest at heart.

I received a letter stating that my son was failing one of his courses. He is in the final year at school.

The letter stated he must attend after school catch up lessons for the work he has not done.

When I confronted my son, all his form have received the letter and it is because his teacher has been on strike and has not been bothered to give the pupils work to do on these days as we were promised the teachers would.

My son has not seen his teacher since December and then he missed some lessons due to the weather, so he has not had a proper cirriculum since November.

How is this having my sons best interest at heart when he is failing subjects due to the stubborn headedness of his teachers?

In this economic crisis we all have to look at what we spend, why should a teacher have a job for life even if there is not work for them to do and they are clearly not doing the work they should be doing now.

I am under the threat of redundancy at the moment you don't see us going on strike yes it is not a good time but it is life.

As the strike goes on and is affecting more and more kids' education, I am feeling more and more disgruntled with the teachers at this school and I am increasingly thinking that they should be sacked for their incompetence when it comes to education of my son.

I also would not like to see them being employed at other schools. At the time of writing this there are 9 jobs advertised on the Rotherham Council website for teachers. Why not start applying now?

But then again if i were looking for new teachers, I would be thinking twice about employing someone who clearly has their own interests at heart, not the pupils' interest and are a disruptive force in their last school.
