Meals on wheels criticism unfair

I worked for Rotherham council for seven years until they decided they were going to get rid of my job, so I decided to leave when the opportunity came along to join a new provider.

I am a meals on wheels driver and have been for almost eight years.

The customers receive the same service as they got from the council but have more choice over the week and better delivery times. In June last year the price of a council meal was £4.20 and not £4.10 as repeatedly reported and in all the years I was there, there would be a gasp every time the price increased.

I love my job and it certainly opened my eyes to see some of the difficulties the elderly face on a daily basis. We dont just drop a meal off and go, lots of people need there meal plating up, some need their food cutting up and taking to them because they are not mobile. We are also checking that they are OK and, if not, then relatives are contacted.

Why such uproar when a private company increases its prices, as I know that the council would have increased their prices over the last year and their meals would also be at least £4.50 if not more.

The cost of day care has gone up so i am pretty sure that the coast of meals would have gone up too.
